An iconic enemy that does not let you go…
Disclaimer
This review is about the remake that came out in 2023. I have not played the original at the point of writing this review, so I can’t and will not compare it to the original.
The atmosphere of this game is great right from the start. It is dark and mysterious, with no idea what really is going on, but knowing you are somewhat responsible for causing this. When you start piecing bits of the story together by the various data and audio logs, that can be found scattered around the station. And things just get darker and darker, when you start finding out what the main enemy of the game SHODAN, an AI that has free reign of the station and developed a god complex, has done and what it or rather she wants to do. This accompanied by great gameplay, a variety of fun weapons and lots of enemies to use them on. As well as no handholding, no quest markers, no objective markers, throughout the game. Also, the puzzles the game offers were a nice challenge here and then.
One slight problem I had though is there are a lot of blinking lights everywhere, but some of them are actual items you can or should pick up. This made it a little hard on the eyes spotting said items, but otherwise not really a bit problem.
Also as a small tip playing it, use items you get, you don’t need to hoard that much, and you will be clogging your sparse inventory probably anyway.
So all in all this game is a very great experience and I would heavily recommend playing this, it also is well worth the money.
